Hello,my name is Charlie.I am an agouti hooded rat.Don't know what that is?Well that is what I'm here for!I live with my owner and four other rats in Mesa Arizona.And boy is it hot!But us, we are the most pampered pets ever!We live in the coldest room in the house.(the reason why is because our house is very old so we only have a swamp cooler so its pretty warm on really hot days :-()I live with two siamese rats, and two black rats.Pooh Bear, the big siamese male.Boots,The big female black rat.And then two of their daughters,Ollie and Isabelle.(ollie is black isabelle is siamese)Well,I hafta get writing on other stuff so, I hope you like my information I give you on pet rats!(because for the fact it is written by a rat)

Well,thats about Charlie,who now is dead, I am the AMAZING Oliver!Ollie for short.Charlie was my husband, i am now widowed and this site is being worked on not too much since charlie died.So NOW I AM MAKING A NEW SITE,!!!!!!it is about the drama of being a rat.I am the main charenter.Follow me in the stroy of a life time!i am posting it in Sampa site so YEAH peoples!!!

Caring for Orphaned rats

If your cat tends to bring in wild animals, or gets hold of one of you new baby pinkie rats, or plain asnd simple,if a mommy rat abandons her babies.You need a formula to fees them,a heating pad to warm them and lots and lots of time!
If you have no heat pad try this:Wet a washclothe and put it in a zip-lock baggie.Then put the clothe inside the zip lock bag.Put the clothe an baggie in the microwave and heat for 30 secs. that might be too hot depending on what setting your micro wave is at.Cool it if its too hot.If its too hot, it will burn your fingers if you place them on it.***REMEMBER***baby rats are hairless!especially if you find them a few days old!thats why im sooo picky!(i was ALWAYS cold as a baby)Oh and formula is tricky too.
FORMULA:1 cup of 2 percent cows milk or goat milk,1/2 teaspoon of sunflower oil, butter worked for me too.1/2 teaspoon of yogurt 1-2 drops of rodent vitamins you put in their water.(get it at pet shops) you can use that inexpensive recipe (which my owner got from RMCA .org)Or kitten formula or human infant formula , or just plain soy milk. NEVER EVER use whole cow's milk.it is very bad. it can get the baby the poops, and it will dehydrate them pooping all the time.so they will die.
And finally, your babies will need lots of attention!stroke them gently with a wet clothe around the genitals after feeding them.ALWAYS after feeding massage them gently aroung their whole bady to get thieir circulation flowing.(my owner lost a newborn bunny when she didnt do that :).Feed them with a needleless syringe.Give them love and care for as long as they need you cuse for 4 weeks you are going to be feeding those little suckers!And if you just dont have the time,be kind and put them down by a vet,dont let them suffer.

odv ATTENTION ALL CHARLIE LOVERS!!!i have some very very sad news,over the weekend (aug 10th 2007)Charlies great adventure came to an end.charlie suffered from an upper respiratory disese that red mucus(not blood)comes out of ther eyes and nose.Charlie was a memorable rat,but his spirat lives on with 9 babies!yes he got hitched!But it is still very sad.now owning the site is his widowed wife (Ollie)AND HIS mother-in-law,boots.to see full storycheck out the new site which ill give a link to in a minute.im so sorry. .This gives info about pet rats only,this does not tell how to kill wild rats or mice,the information on this sight is true about rats,this sight will tell you everything basic and some advanced stuff you need to know about your pet rat.Sicknesses,Care,Feed,And more.

want a pet rat? well here is a list of ratsand other pets you can get from my owner.

Rats:Ollie,Isabelle.ollie is a black rat, isabelle is a siamese.colors may vary from black and siamese to hooded.

Fancy Guppies:male and female.orange,leopard colored,(spotted)and guppies that turn purple in sunlight.

Kittens:we have plenty of cats to give away.(i am pretty dang glad about that)grey spotted tabby black and grey tabby and black and white spotted and more!

we are glad to give pets to new homes.

Colors colors! What color do you like?Well what colors can rats come in you might say.My answer is,ALL KINDS OF COLORS!!!!let me name a few,Agouti,black ,brown,siamese,hooded.
Agouti:Wild colored.hooded or full body most likely black eyes
Hooded:Black,brown,cream colored head,with or without stray marks along the back
Siamese:Off white fur with tan or black points on ears nose tip of tail and feet.can be red or black eyes
Black:Black body,with white markings
Blue:Blueish gray full body color.looks like the charenter from the new movie,Ratatouille
Fawn/Cream:Light tan or blonde fur
Albino:White fur,red eyes

Prone Illnesses

I know i should've said something about this in the illness section,but prone illnesses can be far more dangerous.Really there is only a few prone sicknesses known.Most of us fancy rats are prone to one or more types of cancer.Why?Since most fancy rats are related to those scientist used as experimental animals,the scientist would litterally GIVE the rats cancer.So know the messed up the genetic code and cancer slipped in to some very unfortunate rats.Different kinds of rats are also prone to some different illnesseS.Take the black rat,for example:They can be prone to the rat diesiese that caused the bubonic plague.(look up "the black death")White rats can get skin cancer VERY easily and they have bad eyesight,well even worse than normal.

Rat illnesses can sometimes effect humans.Such as rabies and salmenela.Rats also can be allergic to something.Take me for example,I am allergic to dogs and cats.Thats cool because i can stay out of their way.We can also catch colds.But we CAN'T catch the flu.Why?We can't throw up!Thats why it is easy to poison and kill rats.
signs of illness in your rat
Wetnose,sneezing,rattleing,coughing,discharge from eyes nose and or ears,tumors ,crusty or bloody patches,.If you see any of these signs, you should take your rat to your vet immediately.

Basic materials you need

Ok,basic nessaties for rats,easy,at a petstore you can buy a water bottle,I would reccomend a glass or tough plastic bottle,because we tend to chew on stuff.Plus they just last longer.Anyways,back to rat items.You should get a clay or tough plastic bowl for food.the clay bowl is easier because it's not light, so it doesn't tip if we get on the edge.Food sources are quite simple.We will eat bird food as a temporary food if you run out of rat food.If you don't have that,we eat dog or cat food.Rat food is quite expensive at some stores,and not that easy to find.You shouldn't buy hamster food because it doesn't have the right amount of fiber and missing some important nutriants that only rats need.The best thing to feed us are lab blocks.For those of you who do not know, the food brand Kaytee makes food called nutriant blocks.(They do taste funky,but they are cheap and healthy:(You should also buy some water vitamins for small animals.It doesn't matter what brand for that.It shouldn't matter.Oh yeah, If you want to spoil your rat you would buy them some treats.Rat treats!only thats not basic and i broke the title.Dang.

Introducing new rats to other ones

Now,putting one of os with another is more diffucult than you think.If there is a female and a male in a cage, then you put another male there will be some scraping.If the fighting gets real serious and you find tumors or bloody patches anwhere on the bodyyou should separate them and try again.It is very difficult, I had to deal with a guy twice as big as me!I got a bite wound on a very hurtful place.OUCH!Anyways, try taking the female out or separating the males for a short period of time.Now comes the difficult part.If THAT doesn't work, My owner suggests that you buy Comfort Zone spray ,also called,feliway. by Farnam pet products.It may look like its for cats but no!It works on all animals.Even rats!Its like a miracle worker in a bottle!Just a couple of sprays around the cage and..WHAMMO!!!The males forget their indifferences!It works good!( WARNING!Feliway is expensive,so if you don't need it urgently, don't waste money)If feliway doesn't work then find a rat that is nice to the loner and put them in a cage together.Now if that doesn't work I don't know,I'M ONLY A RAT!!!

Buying your furry friend

Buying any rodent is pretty much easy.I was bought from PETCO.You can buy a rat from anywhere,I would recommend buying from a pet rat breeder because some pet store rats from Petsmart or PETCO can be sick and can possibly die a couple days after wards.While looking for a rat you want, look for one that is active and healthy looking.If you see a rat that has discharge from its eyes, nose or ears, it's probably sick and you shouldn't purchase it.You should tell the manager or breeder about the problem because it could be highly contagious and spread to the rest of us.Yuck!You should buy two rats,because we do like company,and human company can't match the companian of another rat.(Trust me,it's best for EVERYONE)You don't have to buy the rats at the same time,you can buy one now or buy one later.But make sure it's not too late!
